Adult Leader Training Information

Common sense tells us training is important, and research shows the importance of trained leaders. A trained leader is knowledgeable and more confident in the role being performed. Trained leaders exhibit a knowledge and confidence that is picked up by people around them. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, safety, and a whole lot more. Who Needs to Take Youth Protection Training?

• • All registered troop leaders, Merit Badge counselors, and parents who go on camping trips and act as drivers are required to take youth protection training.
  • All concerned parents are encouraged to take youth protection training. It helps to understand what the training entails, and once completed permits one to volunteer “at the last minute” to go camping or to help with other troop outings (e.g. white water rafting, climbs, canoeing, hikes, etc.)
  • Youth Protection Training must be retaken every two years.
  • Youth Protection Training is for the protection of both scouts and leaders.

How to Take Youth Protection Training Course Online

• • Go to My.Scouting.org to create an account. You can also go to Boy Scout of America’s Youth Protection Training website and click on the My.Scouting.org link to create an account

Once you have created an account, you must login and click on the Youth Protection Training “Take Course.”

A login screen will appear. Most will not have an account, so click on the “create account” button

Fill in the account information. Most can choose “not a member” if you aren’t an adult leader/committee member in Troop 41.

As part of the account process, you need to supply a valid email address. Make sure you fill in your name – it will be used on your certificates for completed training As part of account creation, you will get emailed a link to click on. Click on the link, and you will be taken to a web page where you choose a password for your account

• • When you have completed the course, you should be prompted to print a certificate. Register your training with Troop 41 by turning in your printed certificate to the Committee Chair at a troop meeting.
