You need to carefully follow the instructions carefully. You might miss that:

If you do not save the workbook and your application to your computer before you start filling it out you might not be able to save your edits.

Some of the fields are propagated throughout the document and it can only be changed at the first place it is found.

  • You need to understand the procedures for reference letters.
  • Understand what information you will need  and make sure you keep careful notes in a spiral notebook. Record the time/date/who for each meeting so you can total up your hours. Review the workbook so you know what questions to ask like permits required etc.

There are available leaders that have been trained to be Eagle Coaches.  Although you are not required to choose a coach it is recommended.

The proposal is now mostly a description of your project so it can be determined if it is appropriate as an eagle project. The scoutmaster with the help of the Eagle coach is responsible to determine if you know what you need to do and how to lead as you begin the planning of your project. When you have completed the planning the scoutmaster with the help of the Eagle coach will determine if you have a plan and are ready to schedule your project.

The “Unit Advancement Coordinator,” will receive your reference letters and your Eagle Application binder. Although it is not require, the Unit Advancement Coordinator can review all of your paperwork before you get it signed to make sure you have not missed anything. The Unit Advancement Coordinator can help you:

  • Find a project
  • Understand the process
  • Meet with you and your beneficiary to insure that all points are covered.
  • With the information you will need for the proposal and the application.

Think carefully about when you want to start on your Eagle Project. You only get to do one Eagle Project and you want get the most benefit from it by being ready for this responsibility. When you think you are ready:

  • Talk to the scoutmaster to review your readiness.
  • Contact Troop 41 Scoutmaster or Unit Advancement Coordinator for a copy of the contact information you will need to start you paperwork.
  • Get something like a spiral notebook to keep all of your notes and hours for meetings and work on your project.
  • Remember your responsibility is to lead your project and not to do it. Get help from experts and volunteer
